"Look at the Stone!"

After we said our goodbyes to Lisa, Jo and I headed to the British Museum. We spent a good deal of our visit with the Elgin Marbles. Another big crowd but the museum is spacious enough to accommodate.

The big treat of our afternoon was being ushered to the front of a long, long line because we had purchased our tickets online. Sometimes the tourist gods are with you.

This is the Rosetta Stone in a glass case. While I was checking it out, a loud American woman was pointing her phone at it and her children standing to one side and shouting "Look at the Stone! Look at the Stone!" Then she'd jab her finger at the kids a few times, and scream "Look at the Stone!"

Afterward we had dinner nearby and then headed to the New Globe to see a novel interpretation of Romeo and Juliet. The language was Shakespeare, but the actors were dressed in Western attire and slinging six-shooters. We were seated in the top tier on wooden benches softened by cushions we rented (just about everyone does this). It was a lot of fun although they played a lot of the production for laughs--this is a tragedy, after all. A nice note: after the play was over the actors did a kind of square dance with music. Fun.

Here we are outside the theater afterward with St. Paul's in the background across the Thames.

So it's getting late. We get up early tomorrow to set off for Bath on a tour, with stops at Windsor and Stonehenge.
